Zagreb, October 29, 2024 – The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zagreb held a Information Day to showcase the advancements of its project, “Conversion of Bio-Waste into Innovative Hydroponic Solutions.” The event, which took place in the VI Pavilion – Velika vijećnica at the Faculty, brought together a diverse audience of researchers, industry professionals, and sustainability advocates to explore cutting-edge developments in bio-waste utilization and hydroponic farming.
The project aims to address pressing environmental concerns by converting organic waste into valuable resources for hydroponic production systems, representing a significant step toward sustainable agriculture. The Information Day highlighted the project’s goals and achievements, with presentations and discussions focused on the environmental impact of bio-waste, innovative hydroponic solutions, and the potential for scaling these approaches in Croatia’s agricultural sector. An employee of the company, Maja Jakšić, presented the company’s contribution to the project and the possibility of further financing through EU funding programms. Faculty members also facilitated networking opportunities and provided attendees with detailed project documentation, inviting further engagement and potential collaboration.
The project responds to the challenges of the priority policies of green transition and sustainable and circular economy. An interdisciplinary cooperation between science and industry with a long-term vision of transforming traditional agriculture into an advanced economic branch with efficient use of waste resources and low impact on the environment and climate. Since waste contains valuable raw materials that can be recycled, the main goal of the project is to prove the technological concept to produce innovative hydroponic substrates.
